Don Bosco College has established systems and procedures for maintaining and utilizing physical, academic and support facilities. They provide guidance to members in a number of academic areas. The College has regular maintenance and periodic replenishment of essential facilities.
College policy is to have effective mechanism for the upkeep of the infrastructure and other facilities as to have optimum utilization of the facilities in order to have effective college functioning.
The present Research Policy aims to help Don Bosco College, Panaji (hereafter DBC) achieve excellence in research and contribute to societal upliftment. The policy will be implemented by the Research and Development Cell of DBC.
The DBC grants freedom to its students and faculty to carry out research in their chosen field, to approach any funding agency to seek support for their research work, and to report their findings and conclusions freely. However, the DBC expects that researchers shall not violate established professional ethics, norms pertaining to the health, safety, privacy, and other personal rights of human beings or to the infliction of injury or pain on animals.
The DBC shall strive to create a conducive environment for research. The College, to the extent feasible, supports all research to be undertaken by allocating the space, facilities and other resources for research programmes based on the scholarly and educational merits of the
proposed research. It shall also provide development opportunities to researchers for writing research proposals and reports, publications, patent filing, etc. Although researchers have the freedom to choose their own topics of research, it is highly desirable to make research socially relevant.
A faculty member can submit a research project to any government or non-government agency. Every research proposal has to be submitted for DBC’s approval through the Research and Development Cell. The College may monitor the progress, maintain its accounts and submit the
utilization certificate in time to the funding agency for all funded research projects. DBC encourages students and faculty members to report findings from a research project either as a publication or patent.
Faculty members shall be expected to publish their research in refereed National and International journals. Except in the case of Indian languages, it is expected that the journals are indexed in SCOPUS (Elsevier) and/or Web of Knowledge (Clarivate Analytics) or Web of Science (WoS).
In order to improve the quality of research publications, the Parent Teacher Association of DBC shall provide incentives/research grants as follows for all such publications that appear in SCOPUS (Elsevier) and/or Web of Knowledge (Clarivate Analytics) or Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals, and for SCOPUS-indexed book chapters. Beneficiaries will produce the bills of utilisation for research purposes to the College office.

The DBC shall sanction 100% of the approved incentive amount for publications in which the faculty member is the Single Author, First Author, or Corresponding Author. In cases where the faculty member is listed as the Second Author, the Institution shall sanction 50% of the approved amount, as per institutional norms. If the concerned publication has multiple authors from DBC, the incentive amount will be proportionately distributed.
DBC encourages its faculty to take up sponsored research and consultancy assignments and projects. All consultancy activities will be governed by statutes as updated from time to time (currently SA-38). Any intellectual property arising out of sponsored research will be owned jointly by DBC and the sponsor. All consultancy activities will be strictly as per the Consultancy Policy of DBC.
DBC encourages its faculty members to conduct collaborative research with their peers from reputed State, National and International Universities and Institutions. The DBC may also sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent Colleges, Universities and Research Institutions for conducting joint research in areas of common interest.
DBC encourages faculty members from self-financed programmes to participate in National and International workshops, seminars, conferences and faculty development programmes, with provision for reimbursement as per institutional norms. Registration fees to the extent of ₹2,500 and travelling allowance of ₹7,500 per annum shall be provided for attending workshops of an academic nature or presenting a research paper in National and International Seminars /Conferences for qualified and other deserving faculty serving DBC for more than two years.
Newly appointed faculty will also be eligible for reimbursement as per the decision of the Principal. For participation on more than one occasion, faculty members are expected to present a research paper to qualify for reimbursement. However, one can participate in any two of the above academic activities and receive reimbursement of up to ₹20,000 per faculty member in an academic year, with prior permission of the Principal.
For Grant-in-Aid teachers, reimbursement shall be as per DHE Order Ref. No. ACADEMIC/PoA/838/DHE/2023/9308 dated 24/02/2023.
The DBC shall endeavour to retain qualified, competent and research-oriented faculty, particularly those possessing doctoral qualifications (Ph.D.), in order to promote sustained research productivity and academic excellence.
It shall encourage and facilitate DBC students to participate in academic conferences, seminars, workshops and research forums, subject to academic relevance and availability of funds.
