Don Bosco

John Melchior Bosco, popularly known as Don Bosco, was an Italian Roman Catholic priest, educator, and writer of the 19th century.
While working in Turin, where the population suffered many of the ill-effects of industrialization and urbanization, he dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquents and other at-risk youth.
Don Bosco developed a teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method that became known as the Salesian Preventive System. It is based on three pillars: Reason, Religion and Loving Kindness.
Don Bosco was canonized as a Saint on April 1st 1934 and was given the title of "Father and Teacher of Youth". He is the patron saint of apprentices, editors, publishers, school children, young people, magicians & juvenile delinquents.

Salesians of Don Bosco

The Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order of the Catholic Church, was founded by St John Bosco in the year 1859.
Through a global network of educational and social service organizations which include universities, institutions of higher education, schools and social development centres, we care for the less privileged and the marginalized sections of the society.
We serve over nine million young people the world over.

Because of the reach and expertise in the field of education, the Society holds a Consultancy Status at the United Nations.

Don Bosco in India

In India, the Salesians of Don Bosco began their operations in 1906. From a small beginning with a trade school and a hostel for poor children at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, the Society today has over 5,000 members.
Its services are offered through Don Bosco University, 39 colleges which include 3 engineering colleges, over 100 technical schools, and a large network of high schools and scores of non-formal technical and agricultural centres, spread across the country, covering the entire spectrum of social development.
The Society is also involved in literacy centres, shelters for street children, rehabilitation and relief operations.

The Govt. of India has recognized the Salesians of Don Bosco as the largest non-governmental provider of technical education in the country.

In 1946, Rev. Fr Vincent Scuderi SDB came to Goa to begin work in Panjim. He established the Salesian presence by starting an Oratory. A host of activities for the young spread to every corner of the state and along the Konkan belt.

In 2004, a Vice-Province was formed, which in 2007 became the full-fledged Panjim Province.
The Salesian through the network of houses across Goa and a few districts of Karnataka & Maharashtra, serve the community through - Animation Centres, High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Technical Centres, National Institute of Open Schooling, Youth Centres, Village Development Programs, Agriculture Training Centres, Counselling Centres, Don Bosco College of Engineering Fatorda, Don Bosco College of Agriculture Sulcorna and Don Bosco College Panjim.

Don Bosco College
