The Discipline Committee of Don Bosco College, Panjim, in collaboration with the Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) Cell, Mala Free Legal Aid Cell and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North Goa, successfully organised an awareness programme on “Prevention of Drug Abuse” on 15 January 2026 in the College Hall. The programme was organised with the objective of sensitising students to the growing menace of drug abuse and to create awareness about its serious consequences on physical health, mental well-being and social life, along with the legal implications associated with substance abuse and trafficking.
The session was led by PSI Sahil Warang, Police Sub-Inspector, Anjuna Police Station, who addressed the students with an informative and impactful talk elaborating on the harmful effects of drug abuse, its long-term impact on individuals and society, and the stringent legal consequences. The speaker urged students to make informed, responsible choices and to stay away from substance abuse, reinforcing the message of leading a disciplined and healthy life.
The programme was graced by the presence of Shri Irshad Agha, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Narayan Surendra Amonkar, Retd. Judge and presently Chief of the Legal Aid Defence Council, District Legal Services Authority. Their presence underscored the judiciary’s commitment towards preventive legal education and youth awareness on pressing social issues. The Director of the College, Rev. Fr Kinley D Cruz welcomed the gathering and acknowledged the presence of the legal fraternity along with PSI Warang. The Principal, Professor Teotone Vaz also extended a warm welcome to all and was presented with a memento by the Mala legal aid cell.
As part of the programme, a short film, created and presented by students of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law under the Mala Legal Aid Cell, which was directed by Ms Klasha De Souza and Ms Salma Shaikh, on drug abuse was screened. The film delivered a powerful and thought-provoking message on the consequences of substance abuse, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
The awareness programme concluded with a strong message resonating with the theme: “Your future is key, so stay drug free.” The initiative highlighted the collective role of educational institutions, legal aid bodies and law enforcement agencies in addressing social challenges through awareness, education and preventive measures. The Discipline Committee expressed its gratitude to all collaborating agencies, resource persons and the students for their active participation, making the programme a meaningful and impactful success.
