The Department of English at Don Bosco College, Panjim organised a session titled 'Memes as a Social and Political Commentary' on August 9th, 2025. Mr Dale Dias, founder of the popular meme page ‘The Goan Pao’, was the resource person for the same.
The session offered insight into the art of designing memes, including relevance, factual accuracy and visual appeal. Mr Dale effectively explained how memes function as a modern form of communication, and shared points on how to create memes that are both, appealing and ethical. He also shared interesting stories behind some of his most viral memes. Participants at the session were given an opportunity to design original memes, for which Mr Dale provided appreciation and feedback for improvement. This was followed by a Q&A session, where he answered queries about starting a meme page, monetising it and maintaining responsible boundaries.
The event was compered by FY BA English students Liza Dias and Prachi Naik. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Coordinator of the English Department, Assistant Professor Alisha Souza.
