TYBA Women and TYBBA Men take home trophies in the Interclass Football Tournament

The Department of Physical Education and Sports, Don Bosco College, Panjim, organised an Interclass Football Tournament from 23rd July to 1st August 2026 for boys and girls. The tournament was conducted in a 9-a-side format for boys and a 5-a-side format for girls. Adding a unique and enjoyable element to the tournament, staff members were also given the opportunity to join and play for different classes, irrespective of their own class association. This initiative added great enthusiasm, camaraderie, and team spirit to the event.
The inaugural ceremony on 23rd July, marked the commencement of the boys’ matches. The ceremony was graced by Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz, Assistant Professor Mr. Shantanu Arlekar, Director of Physical Education and Sports Mr. Ryan Pereira, and Instructor in Physical Education Ms. Prissie Fernandes. The tournament was officially declared open with a ceremonial kick-off by Assistant Professor Mr. Shantanu Arlekar and Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz.


The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 18 classes competing separately in the boys’ and girls’ categories, with approximately 280 students, along with staff members, participating in the Interclass Football Tournament.
The semi-finals and finals were held on 1st August 2026. In the women’s section, the first semi-final was played between TYBA and TYBBA, while the second semi-final was contested between TYBCOM and SYBBA T&T. In the men’s section, the first semi-final was played between TYBBA and TYBA, while the second semi-final was contested between SYBBA T&T and FYBCOM.
Before the commencement of the finals, Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz and Assistant Professor Ms. Arantxa Rangel conducted the ceremonial handshake with the players, encouraging them to display true sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the matches.


In the women’s final, TYBA faced TYBCOM. After an exciting contest, TYBA emerged as the winners of the 5-a-side Interclass Women’s Football Championship.
In the men’s final, TYBBA played against FYBCOM. Following an exciting tie-breaker, TYBBA emerged as the winners of the 9-a-side Interclass Football Tournament.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz and Vice Principal Dr. Cedric Silveira.
The tournament recognised outstanding performances through special awards in both categories. In the Women’s Category, Eslin Nadar of TYBA was awarded Best Goalkeeper, Mehek Shaikh of TYBA received the Best Defender award, and Sarah Hussain of TYBA was named Best Striker.


In the Men’s Category, Velroid Fernandes of TYBBA was awarded Best Goalkeeper, while Mr Fraizer Picardo received the Best Defender award. Kabir Mulgund of FYBCOM was named Best Striker for his impressive performance throughout the tournament.
The tournament concluded on a high note, celebrating sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among students and staff. The enthusiastic participation and spirited performances throughout the tournament made the event a memorable and successful one.
