The Department of Business Administration, Don Bosco College, Panjim Goa organised a session on road safety for the students to create awareness. The session was conducted in association with the Goa Police Traffic cell. PSI Mr. Tukaram Shetmandrekar deliberated on the crucial aspects of road safety.
PSI Tukaram asserted that driving is not a right but a privilege. He made students reflect on the privileges of using a vehicle on the road and significance of holding a driving licence. He emphasised the importance of life and our responsibility towards ourselves and others on the road.
A total of 40 students attended the session and were enlightened on the crucial aspects of road safety. PSI Tukaram kept the students engrossed with various videos and presented real-life examples, which allowed students to connect with the seriousness of the topic. He explained the rules, penalties, and asked a number of questions of the students. He also explained the Good Samaritan scheme (also known as Rah Veer Scheme), wherein if a person takes an accident victim to a hospital during the golden hour period, then he/she will be entitled to an amount of 25000 rupees. He made good attempts to understand the reluctance of students in helping victims of accidents through thought-provoking questions. To which he received multiple responses like fear of being dragged into legal matters, lack of time, and even indifference since the person involved in the accident may not be known to them. He gave out fliers where instructions, rules and regulations were clearly outlined. The session was convened by Dr. Cedric Silveira.
The session was very helpful to the students as it was quite an extensive session on awareness created on the rules and regulations to be followed on the road and the dynamics of dealing with victims of road accidents.
