The Department of Business Administration of Don Bosco College, organized a need-of-the-hour session on “Technical and Behavioral Competencies: What recruiters really expect from campus hiring” for the final year BBA students on July 10, 2026. The session was chaired by Prof Surjyabrat Buragohain from IBS, Bangalore.
According to Prof Buragohain, Job fit and Organization fit are the key to success. Job fit is all about technical competencies or domain knowledge and Organizational fit is about behavioral competencies such as communication, leadership, integrity, teamwork, adaptability, learning agility, and emotional intelligence.
The speaker further shed light on the key aspects when recruiting a person for a job. Apart from the resume and group discussion, the interview, aptitude test, case study and assessment centers also play a role. He stated that nowadays a degree is not the only factor but behavioral competencies play a big role in terms of communication, problem solving attitude, team work, adaptability, leadership potential and integrity and ethics. A person without the above characteristics will find it very difficult to get a good job.
He gave examples of recruiters going to campuses to search for candidates. Of the 120 odd students, only 20 are often selected. A student who is ignorant about behavioral competencies, will not be looked upon favorably for the job in question.
The session threw relevant and practical ideas across to the students and ended with a question and answer session.
