IKS Cell (DHE Compliance)

The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Cell of Don Bosco College, Panaji, has been established in accordance with the directions of the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa.

The Cell seeks to create awareness and appreciation of India’s rich intellectual, scientific, artistic, cultural and ethical traditions. It encourages students and faculty members to explore Indian knowledge in an academic, interdisciplinary and contemporary context.

Through lectures, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, field visits, documentation projects and other activities, the Cell aims to connect traditional knowledge with present-day education, research, innovation, sustainability and social development.

Objectives

  • Create awareness among students and faculty members about the scope and significance of Indian Knowledge Systems.
  • Promote the study of India’s contributions to philosophy, literature, languages, arts, sciences, mathematics, astronomy, health, agriculture, architecture, governance, economics, ecology and other fields.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary engagement by connecting Indian knowledge traditions with contemporary academic disciplines.
  • Organise lectures, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, competitions, field visits and other activities related to IKS.
  • Encourage faculty members to incorporate relevant elements of Indian Knowledge Systems into teaching, learning and research, wherever appropriate.
  • Promote student participation in documentation, research, presentations and projects related to local and national knowledge traditions.
  • Document and promote Goa’s indigenous knowledge, cultural practices, languages, heritage, ecology, crafts and community traditions.
  • Facilitate interaction with scholars, practitioners, cultural institutions and local knowledge holders.
  • Encourage critical, evidence-based and academically responsible engagement with traditional knowledge.
  • Explore the contemporary relevance of Indian knowledge in areas such as sustainability, holistic well-being, social responsibility, ethics and innovation.
  • Collaborate with the Directorate of Higher Education, Goa University and other institutions for IKS-related programmes and initiatives.
  • Maintain proper records and publish reports of the Cell’s activities in accordance with institutional and DHE requirements.
